All Dogs Go to Heaven

Unfortunately, today was a devastating day. My best friend and special being left us for his final voyage. All dogs go to heaven. This was something I remember from the animated movie with Burt Reynolds with the same name. I choose to believe that.

Brady was the most special dog to me. The moment I saw his face on the post asking to re-home some puppies, I had a moment of clarity and certainty that he needed to be with us. A decision that, although with pain and sorrow now, I will never regret.

I picked him up and came home, only to drop him off with my mom so I could continue with my destructive habits of smoking and drinking. I regret this. Even through my stupid decision, I came home to find him waiting for me. I walked through the doors and he ran from the women adoring him to choose me. I am lucky.

As time went on he grew, and I grew away... away from my family and onto my own. Six years passed and I returned a different persona. Still one that loved me, but with less trust. I deserved it.

Through this time we all made amazing memories and experiences together with my good boy. I am glad for every single one of them.

He ran to me that day... out of everyone in that room, he picked the one who had just left him behind. That's the thing about dogs. They don't keep score. They don't hold your worst against you. They just love you, and wait for you to become someone worth loving back.

I don't know if all dogs go to heaven. But I know one did today. Rest easy, Brady. You were the best of us.
